Dr. Scott Dearman | Superintendent

Dr. Scott Dearman has served as Superintendent of Dunlap School District since July 1, 2018. With three decades of experience in education, Dr. Dearman has a proven record of accomplishments that include working collaboratively with staff and the Board of Education towards increasing graduation rates and improving educational outcomes for students.

A well respected and talented educator who began his career as a classroom teacher and coach, Dr. Dearman has always made student learning and achievement the focus of his work. He truly wants to make a difference for children in the district. He continues to foster creativity and skills that will prepare students for success.

A public educator since 1994, Dr. Dearman has served as the principal of Farmington Junior High and Farmington High School, assistant principal of Chillicothe Elementary Center, and as a mathematics teacher at Illinois Valley Central High School in Chillicothe. In 2012, he was honored as High School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association- CIV Region. Most recently, Dr. Dearman was selected as the 2024 IASA Superintendent of Distinction  for the CIV Region. 

Before joining Dunlap School District, Dr. Dearman served as Superintendent of Deer-Creek-Mackinaw CUSD #701 from 2012-2018. In recognition for his work he has presented locally at the State Superintendent Conference and at the Joint Annual Conference.

A proponent of civic and community engagement, Dr. Dearman has been involved in several civic and academic organizations including LUDA, IASA, IASBO, Golden Key International Honor Society, Lions Club, Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, Rotary International Club (Paul Harris Fellow), the National School Transportation Association,P.E.R.F.E.C.T., and currently serves as the Director of the IASA CIV Region.

Originally from East Peoria, Illinois, he earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education from Eastern Illinois University, and his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Illinois State University. He also received his Education Specialist Degree from Western Illinois University and his Doctorate from Aurora University.

Dr. Dearman and his wife Jill,  live in the Dunlap School District with their two children. Outside of work, Dr. Dearman enjoys mountain biking, golfing, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
