Students who are identified as “at-risk” and/or “failing to meet expectations” as identified by the district reading and/or math assessments, as well as classroom curriculum based common formative and summative assessments are eligible for supplemental reading and/or math services. Parents of identified students are informed and consulted concerning services and targeted interventions.
District schools that qualify for Title I services use the Title I funds to provide highly qualified paraprofessionals who provide student support through small group and individual instruction outside of the core reading and/or math instruction. Student progress and growth on monitored on a biweekly basis.
Reading interventions may include: Fundations, Read Naturally, Lexia, Intervention by Design and other research based programs.
Math interventions may include: IXL Math, Math Fact programs, Math steps, and other research based programs.
As a parent/guardian of a student at a school receiving funds under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, you have the right to request the professional qualifications of the teachers who instruct your child and the paraprofessionals, if any, who assist them. You may request the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers and/or their paraprofessional assistants:
Whether the teacher has met state certification requirements;
Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency permit or other provisional status by which state licensing criteria have been waived;
The teacher’s college major;
Whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees; and
Whether any instructional aides or paraprofessionals provide services to child and, if so, their qualifications.
Title I, which is a component of the Every Student Succeeds Act, provides financial assistance to schools to meet the needs of at-risk students. The goal of Title I is to provide instructional services and support to help students reach the performance expectations outlined in the Illinois Learning Standards.
