Canvas FAQs

Many questions on the use and navigation of Canvas can be found in their user guides.

NOTE: Pairing codes can only be generated from the web version of Canvas. Pairing codes cannot be generated from the Canvas mobile apps.

1. Your student will need to login to their Canvas account (see panel above for instructions on signing into Canvas LMS).
2. In the Navigation bar on the left hand side of the page:
   1. Click the Account icon
   2. Click Settings

3. On the right hand side of the Settings screen, click Pair with Observer.

4. Once the Pair with Observer window opens:
   1. Copy the 6-digit alphanumeric pairing code.  You'll need to share the code with the person who will link it to their account.  The pairing code will expire after 7 days or its first use.
   2. Click OK to close the window.

1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://d323.instructure.com/login/canvas . 
2. Click the link for "Need a Canvas Account?" in the top right of the login screen.

3. Click the link at the bottom of the resulting screen that reads "Parents Sign up Here".

4. On the Parent Signup form:
   1. Enter your name, e-mail address, and enter a unique password, then confirm the password.
   2. Enter the pairing code generated from your student's account.
   3. Agree to the terms of service and click the "Start Participating" Button

NOTE: Once you have linked to a student from the Observing page, you cannot remove the student. To remove a student, please contact the student's teacher.

1. Login to your observer (parent) account.  See panels above for steps on creating an observer account.
2. From the navigation menu on the left hand side of the screen:
   1. Click the Account icon
   2. Click Settings

3. In the user navigation bar, click Observing.

4. In the Observing pop up box:
   1. Enter the student's pairing code (see above for instructions on generating a pairing code).
   2. Click the Add Student Button

5. Student name will show in the Observing window.
