The Liberty Bell 7 Project

Overview: Wilder-Waite students were divided into 11 multi-grade teams with each team being named for a significant figure in space history. Teams were involved in various monthly activities designed to learn more about Gus Grissom's Liberty Bell 7, the Mercury Space Program of the early 60's, and space history in general. Beginning in January teams began constructing a 90% scale replica of the Liberty Bell 7. Jim Martin of Martin Kinetics facilitated the building of the Liberty Bell 7. The project culminated with the unveiling of the finished product during a Science Fair in May of 2006. The Science Fair also featured booths designed by each team depicting information and/or activities they participated in throughout the year.

We are extremely proud of this worthwhile project. The finished product will be housed at Wilder-Waite Grade School until a more permanent home is found. Photos of the project can be viewed through the link at the bottom of this page.
