Office FAQS

Frequently asked questions at DVMS

The school website is www.dunlapcusd.net/dvms and is a WEALTH of information.  You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with it.  Our daily announcements are on there as well as in the Parent Portal of PowerSchool.  Game or event cancellations/changes due to the weather are posted on the front page as soon as we receive them.  If you can't find something you're looking for, please email the office and we'll be glad to help you out!

If I let my child's teacher know that he/she will be out, due to illness, etc.,  do I still need to let the office know?
Yes, it is not the teacher’s responsibility to let the office know. It is the responsibility of the parents. All attendance, whether it’s illness or vacation, goes through the office.  In the upper right hand corner of our website, there is an Email An Absence link.  You may also call the school and leave a message on the attendance hotline.  243-1034, option 1.

If I'm picking my child up early, do I need to send a note?
YES - Your student should bring a note to the office first thing in the morning and a pass will be given to him/her to be released from class at the appropriate time. If you send an email notifying the office of the absence, please have your student stop in the office first thing in the morning and pick up an early dismissal pass.

How do I get homework when my student is sick?
We encourage students to check Canvas when they are home sick.  They may email specific teachers if they have questions.   Parents may come in after 2 PM to pick up books as needed, though many of the classes have an online book.   We do not give out locker combinations to other students.

How does the lunch system work?
Students use their 5 digit ID as their lunch access. They need to memorize this number and type it into the keypad as they go through the line. Money may be added daily, weekly or monthly. Students may put money on their lunch account any day when they go through the lunch line. Parents may also access My School Bucks to add money. Money added on-line will not be credited to the account until the next day.  Lunch balances may be found in the Parent Portal of PowerSchool.

If my student is going to be late to school due to an appointment, do I still need to call the office?
Yes.  This will save you from getting a call from the attendance office. You may either email or phone the office directly.

We are going on vacation and my child will miss a day of school.   What do I need to do?

Send a note to the office at least TWO days before the absence. Your student will be given a planned absence form to take around to his teachers. Students are expected to remain current in their course work when they return.  Teachers will assign a reasonable date of completion for missed work.

My student wants to ride a different bus home with a friend.  What do I need to do?
Effective beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, students are not allowed to be transported on any bus other than their assigned bus regardless of whether or not there is parental consent.  Students will only be transported to and from their designated stops.

What if I have questions regarding the buses and bus routes?
Duane Peterson is the Director of Transportation. He may be reached at: 243-8323 or dpeterson@dunlapcusd.net

Where can I find the sports schedules?
A link to all of our sports schedules are posted on the athletics/activities page of our website.

If I drop something off for my student, when will they get it?
This is a notice of our school procedures regarding items being dropped off for students in the main office at Dunlap Valley Middle School.  The main office will have two call downs a day with the first call down at 9:15 a.m. and the last call down at 1:33 p.m.

Dunlap Valley Middle School understands that students may OCCASIONALLY forget homework or school related items and having a parent bring these to school is fine.  We encourage you not to make a habit of doing this so students learn to remember things on their own.  Please understand that we will not interrupt classroom instruction or academic progress for these items to be given to the appropriate student. Students are always welcome to pick it up during passing periods throughout the day.  They may also come down during their lunch period to pick up any dropped off items.  Otherwise, the students will be called down at 9:15 a.m. and 1:33 p.m. Thank you for your support in this matter.  Please feel free to contact Mr. Holmes or Mr. Johnson with any questions.
