My name is Stefanie Negley and I have wanted to be a teacher since Kindergarten. I am a Dunlap Alumni and very excited to be teaching in the district where I once went to school. I went to Illinois State University where I majored in elementary education and minored in mass communications. I also specialized in language arts and social sciences. During my time at ISU, I was a member of their Speech Team. This is a group of individuals that travel around the United States competing in public speaking and dramatic events. I did my student teaching during the fall of 2004 in a third grade classroom. This was at Northpoint Elementary School in Bloomington , Illinois . I had the great pleasure of working with Jodie Kinzinger and I can't thank her enough for everything she taught me! Please check out her website: Mrs. Kinzinger's Third Grade
I graduated from ISU in December of 2004 and decided to substitute teach. I did this in Bloomington from January till May in grades K-8. In May of 2005 I moved back to good old Peoria to save some money and work at the RiverPlex Summer Day Camp. I was a supervisor at this camp the summer of 2005 and 2006.
I became the remedial reading teacher at Wilder-Waite Grade School from 2005-2006. I was very excited to have my first teaching job but also to be teaching at the school where I went to grade school! I worked with K-3 in sharpening their reading skills: comprehension, phonics, fluency, letter sounds and letter identification.
Now that brings us to the present. I strongly believe that teaching is a passion not just a profession! I started teaching second grade at Dunlap Grade School in August of 2006 and I absolutly love every part of my job! I find teaching to be one of the most rewarding experiences and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Second grade is a very exciting time and I love helping prepare students for the challenges that await them in third grade. I look forward to meeting you and your child and can't wait to see what this year will bring!
I love teaching but I do have other interests, as well. I enjoy singing, acting, reading children's literature, photography, scrapbooking, website design, movies, coffee and making people laugh. I also help out with the Dunlap High School speech team when I can.
My family is very important to me and they give me great support. My mom is a preschool music teacher at 123 You 'N Me, so there is always music being played in our house. She has played the piano since she was six and instilled in me the love of music. She also helps me out a great deal over the summer and throughout the year! My sister, Stacy, is a senior at Eastern Illinois University and she is studying Elementary Education. (thanks to her older, wiser big sister of course) She is also heavily involved in music and she participates in the University Choir and the Concert Choir. I have been very lucky to have had so much time with both of my grandparents on both sides of my family. My grandpa Negley passed away in October of '07 and I appreciate the support of my family as well as the DGS staff for helping me to get through this time.
