Weekly
Quizzes/Tests
There will be a D.O.L. quiz every Friday. Our daily D.O.L. practice paper, which will be sent home on
Thursday, will serve as the study guide
for the quiz. Students should study the
eight sentences which were edited during the week.
A spelling
pretest will be given on each Monday.
The final spelling test will
be given on Friday. Students will bring
home the spelling list on Monday. In
addition to the basic twenty words, students will also be learning to spell the
states and capitals. These selected
words will be found on the back of the weekly list. Students receiving a 100 on
the pretest will be given 10 challenge words for the final test.
Daily Geography will be due on Fridays. Students will complete these questions in the
classroom. Students will have access to
maps, atlases, books, encyclopedias and internet to complete the assignments.

Home Reading Folders
Your child is
expected to read five days a week for 15 - 20 minutes each day. The guidelines for the “reading
log” can be found on the first page of the folder. Please help your child find a good time each
day to set aside for this assignment.
Students should bring the folder to school on Mondays. It will be checked and returned to your child
on that day. Students will also be
required to complete one book review a month.
Forms for these reviews are included in the folder.
Math
We are excited
about our math series this year. In
addition to numerous classroom activities, a website, provided by the
publishers, offers students the opportunity to solve problems, review skills,
and practice math facts at home.
Throughout the year I will refer to this site. I would suggest that you include this website
as a “favorite” so that it can be easily accessed.

Odds and Ends
1. Every day your child will bring home a “Home Folder”. This folder
will be used for homework, graded papers, and school information.
2. The newsletter
I send home on Monday will include information about classroom activities,
weekly curriculum, and upcoming tests.
An assignment sheet, which
will be completed everyday, will be on the back of the newsletter. For this reason, it should remain in the home
folder throughout the week.
3. I will send home book orders every 4 – 6 weeks. Please make checks payable to the individual
book companies.
