Journal Writing![]()
The Dunlap School District has made a commitment to incorporate Process Writing into the curriculum at all grade levels. For Kindergarten, this means working on the Developmental stage of writing. In Kindergarten this entails each child keeping a "journal". Their journal is a book that they will "write" in at least two times a week. It is important to understand that all children are seen as individuals, and that reading and writing are developmental skills that will come at different times for different children. When children write in their journals, writing might be anything from drawing pictures, to scribble writing, to mock cursive, to invented spelling, to conventional writing. The important thing is that it has meaning to the child and is valued as such by adults. I think you will enjoy reading these journals at conference time, and marvel in the progress they make throughout the year!
