Our Dunlap District uses the Harcourt Mathematics program. Some of the mathematical concepts that we will be studying are sorting, classifying, telling time, using money, counting, shape recognition, graphing, and introductory problem solving. These concepts will be taught during our scheduled math time each day. Throughout the day, these concepts will be reinforced through various activities, especially during calendar time and our reinforcement centers.
All of these math skills can be practiced at home. Throughout your normal daily activities include your child in problem solving skills, such as counting objects, sorting socks, toys, etc… This will give your child a sense of accomplishment, while improving their academic skills without it being a formalized “study” time.
