Fall is my very favorite season. It is time for school in fall. I love learning in school. I jump in leaves when it's fall. I love to see the colors when I jump in. I also like to collect acorns. When I do, I like to see the shapes and sizes. That's why I like fall.
- Madison Henson, 2R

Spookville
On a dark and stormy night, the students in 2N went on a spooky exploration. Miss Negley decided to take her class on a field trip to a haunted house in Spookville. She asked them to wear camouflage clothes. When they got to the front of the house it was black and slimy. They walked in trembling and ghosts jumped out from behind the door. THEY ALL FREAKED OUT! The ghosts took their icy fingers and grabbed them one by one. They threw them in a dungeon with creepy spiders. All of the sudden, Mr. Etnyre appeared with an axe to bash in all the bars. Once they were safe they had a pizza and doughnut party! They decided never to go to Spookville EVER again.

The things I like doing in October make me feel warm or cozy and I want to share that feeling with you.
I like carving pumpkins, Halloween, or sometimes just curling into a ball on the couch on a cold night.
Carving pumpkins is fun. It's like taking a brother or sister and giving him or her mustache. I like scraping out the inside. Sometimes we cook the seeds.
Halloween is fun too. You get to be someone you aren't. It's like a wish come true. But why do people make it
scary? That part isn't fun.
The best part of October is on a cold night. It makes me so cozy that I want to have cocoa and talk with people.
It's not only warm and cozy on the outside; it wraps around me and goes through my head. It makes me want to dance.
October is the part of the year that makes me feel at home!!
- Elisa Jensen, 3K
Here is some stuff I like about October. I like fall and wearing a costume on Halloween. I also like all that candy!!
I love fall because all the leaves are on the ground. I once went to my cousins in fall. They have lots of leaves. Once they made three big piles in their backyard! I fell in them lots of times. It was fun!!
My Halloween costumes from the last two years were my favorite ones. There was last year's skeleton, and my pirate one from before that. They are really cool!! My skeleton one I think glows in the dark!
The last thing I am going to tell you about is all that candy on Halloween! My favorite candy is a chocolate bar (without the nuts or almonds). They're really good! That's what I like about October.

Signs of Fall
Fall, Fall, Fall! There are a lot of signs that tell you fall is here! It's colder and windier! It's cool and a lot of fun!
The change in nature is one thing that shows fall is here. Animals gather food for winter. Trees die because there is not enough sunlight since the days are getting shorter. Yuk! Lots of bugs come out in the fall, too! The bug that bothers me the most is the stink bug.
Holidays are another thing that show me fall is here. You can eat lots and lots of turkey at Thanksgiving. Yum! You can trick or treat on Halloween. Boo! Lots of birthdays are in the fall, too!
The last thing that shows me that fall has arrived is my family activities. My sister, grandpa, and I harvest in the fall. This year we picked corn and we had a good crop! My sister, grandma, and I decorate for Halloween. We put up orange and yellow lights that are shaped like ghosts. My family watches football on TV. Our favorite team is the Bears.
Fall, Fall, Fall! There is always a lot of signs that fall is here!
- Casey Bohler, 3T
Signs of Fall
Nature is one thing that tells us fall is here. Like animals, they start getting ready for hibernating. Also the leaves on the trees change colors and they fall. Bugs start coming out, especially grasshoppers and crickets.
Weather is another sign that fall is coming. When it's fall don't you feel like there's shorter days and longer nights? Don't you feel like the temperature drops or it's a bit colder? And the clouds? Don't you think the clouds are darker?
Last, but not least, there are certain holidays in the fall. Thanksgiving is a holiday in November when you get to have a feast. Another holiday is Halloween when you get to dress up and go trick or treating. One of my favorite holidays is the fall. It's called my birthday!
These are the signs that tell me FALL IS HERE!

Ahhh! Tsunami! Oh, never mind it's just the wave pool. In August I went to Knights Action Park for a before-school-vacation with my family. Time to make a splash! Please join me!
A two hour trip... you've got to be kidding me. I must have asked are we there yet at least ten times. I was so eager to get to the park. When we did, I was so relieved and excited!
The water slide looked so amazing and fun, I could not wait to go down the slide. For some reason, you sit on square mats! Talk about weird. It was so cool to go down that slide. When I went on the fast slide I hit my head hard. I did not go down on that speedy one again.
After that, I got some dipp'n dots. Never heard of them? They taste great. After two hours, it was time to leave. I was really sad to go, but I was actually happy to leave and get home. Again, I asked it…are we there yet?
I learned that wave pools give you headaches, but are a blast. I will never forget falling off the mat, it was hilarious! I thought my trip with my family was entertaining, relaxing, and most of all, wet!

Extra, extra read all about it the summer vacation of the year! My family and I went on vacation to Virginia Beach . We're heading to a family reunion in West Virginia over the summer. What happens next wait and see, so come along and read with me!

I went to my room and wow! It's beautiful. I'm so exited to go swimming. I put on my swimming suit and rushed to the beach. I sat in the sand until this girl sat next to me. We start talking and now were friends. My friend and I decided to make a sand castle, then we went to the pool. Then my dad decided to ride the boogie board. Next thing I know he fell off. That was not the only thing that fell off…his trunks fell off too. The first day in Virginia Beach it was awesome!
That night my family decided to take a nice walk on the beach. I'll tell you one thing there was lots of beautiful scenery at the beach during that night. We all took off our shoes to feel the sand in our toes. OW! It felt like we walked twenty-five miles, but it was only three miles. When I got to my room BOOM…I fell onto my bed and slept.
It was my last night in paradise! I was so sad I had to leave the next day. We walked around watching street bands and shopping. We shopped till we dropped. After that my dad bought my bother Mike and I for yummy ice cream. That was fun and good at the same time.
Going to Virginia Beach with my family was the best time of my life. I'll never forget when my dad's pants fell off. Next time I'll remember more money for more shopping. YEAH!

If I were Christopher Columbus I would go on a voyage to the Indies . It would take weeks, but it would also be lots of fun. I would take my dad with me because his is good at fishing, and he could also tell jokes. I would also take my mom because she can cook really good pizza. She is also really talented at cleaning the floor. Mom is also good at helping me when I get hurt. My third choice would be my friends because they are nice to me. They are fun to play with and I would not get bored. These are the reasons I would take these people on my trip.
Clint Koehler, 4C

If I were Christopher Columbus, I would take these three people with me on a voyage to the Indies . I would take my mom and dad and my Uncle Bob with me. I would take my mom because she is a good cook. She cooks good pizza, and pizza is my favorite food. My mom could cook all the food on the ship. I would take my dad because my dad is good at reading a map. My dad could navigate us and not get us lost. I would also take my Uncle Bob because he is good at repairing things. If part of the ship broke, he could fix it. Now you can see why I would take these three people with me on a voyage to the Indies .

I'm going to tell you about Reconstruction after the Civil War. Here are some things I'll be telling you about, Lincoln, the Fourteenth Amendment, and the Fifteenth Amendment.
![]()
To Begin, I'll tell you about Abe Lincoln. He wanted to bring the country back together quickly, peacefully, and unpunishing the south. He was such a great President that he got voted for a second term. His plans were cut short because he was assassinated. He was watching “Our American Cousin” when John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor, shot him at the Ford's Theater.
Next, I will tell you about the Fourteenth Amendment. When it was ratified, African Americans were allowed to be elected to the United States Congress. African Americans also served in the Reconstruction process. Johnathan C. Gibbs, and African American and Secretary of State in Florida, helped set up the Florida public school system. Before that, most schools in the south were almost all private schools.
Last, I'll tell you about the Fifteenth Amendment. In it it stated that no citizen shall be denied the right to vote because of “race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” It was ratified in 1870. It was designed to extend voting rights and enforce them by law.
As you can see, these events were all important in the process of Reconstruction.
- Alaina Potts, 5W
The United States has overcome many changes since the Civil War ended and I am going to tell you about three of them. Those things are, Abraham Lincoln's assassination, African Americans, and the Reconstruction.
First, I will start with the African Americans. The African Americans after the Civil War were free. The Freedmen's Bureau helped the freed slaves. It gave them food, supplies, and clothes. In 1869 about 3,000 schools were built and they held more than 150,000 students, including the African Americans. Also about 500,000 freedmen received medical treatment from over 100 hospitals.
The second thing I will tell you about is the Reconstruction. After the death of Abraham Lincolns Vice President Andrew Jackson became President. In December of 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment mad the Northerners mad. After the Union approved the Fourteenth Amendment. That stated that if you were born in the United States you would become citizens.
Lastly, I will tell you about Abraham Lincoln's assassination. He was elected in 1860 and re-elected in 1864. He married Mary Todd Lincoln, who suffered from depression, was disliked by the public, and was always jealous of other women talking to Abe. John Wilkes Booth is the person who killed Abe. Booth was a Southern sympathizer and he was a very famous actor at the time. On April 14, 1865 Lincoln was shot in the head at Ford's Theater. The next day he died at 7:22 am. He was buried in Illinois , at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield .
I hope you learned a lot about life after the Civil War.
- Katie Welsh, 5W
After the Civil War the United States was different. Abraham Lincoln, African Americans, and miners were three things that changed in the United States .
One thing that changed was Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865. Lincoln 's death shocked the Nation. Southerners had lost their leader.
Another thing that changed was African Americans. African Americans fought and stayed in the army to fight Native Americans in the west. Booker T. Washington helped start a school called the Tuskegee Institute. Many African Americans became sharecroppers after the Civil War.
Finally another change was with miners. Miners went to the west after the California gold rush of 1849. New discoveries were found there. The next year there was news of huge silver deposits in Nevada .
To sum up the United States was different after the Civil War.
- Grant Sensabaugh, 5W
Post Civil War
Welcome history fans all over the nation to Post Civil War game show. Today we will be going through the assassination of Abe Lincoln, Thomas Edison and his inventions, and Freedman's Bureau.
First up to bat is the assassination of Abe Lincoln. Everybody knows that Abe was assassinated, but what they don't know is who did it, why, and where. On April 14, 1865 Abe was murdered at Ford's Theater. The main question is who would have the nerve to do it? John Wikes Booth, a very famous actor at Ford's Theater, is the answer to that question. Lincoln was a very talented man but letting ex-slaves vote pushed John too far.
Next up is that crazy Thomas Edison and his inventions. Thomas' ideas ended up to be a major hit such as the photograph and the long lasting light bulb. He was a noble American inventor that lived to be 84. Thomas was born in Milan , Ohio where he had six brothers and sisters and he was the youngest. Even though he was the smallest his brain was large and his new inventions helped us out a lot. His long lasting light bulb improved our United Nation.
Last but certainly not least is Freedman's Bureau. In March, 1865 there was a thing called Freedman's Bureau. It aided needy people in the South and gave them food and supplies. This was set up by the United States Congress to help ex-slaves.
So now you can see how fun history and Post Civil War can be. This is Post Civil War with the assassination of Abe Lincoln, Thomas Edison, and Freedman's Bureau.

Post Civil War
The Civil War brought man changes to the United States . A couple of changes were President Lincoln's assassination the transcontinental railroad, and Thomas Edison's inventions.
The assassination of Abraham Lincoln occurred on April 14, 1865. It happened at Ford's Theater at about 10:00 P.M. What happened was that Jon Wilkes Booth snuck into where Lincoln was sitting and shot him in the back of the head. After the people he was sitting with found out he had been shot, Lincoln was taken to a boarding house across the street. Lincoln died the following morning at 7:22 A.M.
Second, it's incredible how long it took to build the transcontinental railroad. The transcontinental railroad was built after the Civil War ended. The railroad was built across the continent and ended in California . The railroad took forever to build! It took 40 years!
The last thing is all about Thomas Edison's inventions. One thing he invented was the lightening rod. The lightening rod was something that you put on really tall buildings, and if there were lightening the lightening rod would attract the lightening instead of it striking the building. Another thing he invented was the light bulb. Edison is best known for it. One more thing he invented was electricity. Without electricity we wouldn't have lamps or lights or anything. We are lucky Thomas Edison invented all these things.
Now you know how the Civil War brought some changes to the United States . Like the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the transcontinental railroad, and Thomas Edison's inventions. Without these things America probably wouldn't be what it is today.
