United States History Standard #29 ( from the National Center for History in the Schools --NCHS) states that students should "understand the struggle for racial and gender equality and for the extension of civil liberties." The purpose of this web guide is to enrich and enhance the study of civil rights in the middle school curriculum by providing an organized list of online government resources.  Selected non-governmental resources are also included.

This guide is designed for both teachers and students at the middle school level. Links for students include primary and secondary resources. Links for teachers include activities, lesson plans and a list of national organizations.
