About Dunlap Middle School

The Dunlap School District has been a progressively growing community. To accomodate the rapid growth in the district, the Dunlap School Board of Education felt the need for a new building that could house over 600 students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Dunlap Middle School, or DMS (and formerly Pioneer Junior High), opened its doors on January 18, 1999. Since its existance, DMS is recognized as one of the leading schools in Central Illinois.

We are located five miles north of Peoria, Illinois and we serve a population that includes the very north part of Peoria and Dunlap.

DMS has an excellent facility which includes over 25 classrooms, two computer labs, a library, an applied technology lab, two gyms and a commons area.

Our school operates under the middle school concept and is an exemplary school. Teachers have daily common planning time. The students at DMS are challenged with an engaging and exciting curriculum. DMS is proud to be one of the higher acheiving schools in the Peoria area with well above ISAT scores.

In addition to academics, DMS offers an outstanding extra-curricular program which includes sports, music and many other activities. A climbing wall along with some high ropes initiatives has been a popular addition to our school. We have also recently started a very comprehensive intramural program that allows for more students to get involved.

Vision Statement

Dunlap Middle School is dedicated to developing each student’s learning skills so that he/she can solve problems and can achieve personal growth and satisfaction throughout his/her lifetime. All individuals have their own capacity for excellence. This school’s challenge is to assist learners to find, understand, and accept the necessity of working toward a personal level of excellence. Students will mature through the fostering of their perseverance, responsible behavior, and self-direction.

School Song:

D.M.S we're loyal to you.
Raise our colors orange and blue.
And when the Panthers finish
You will see, too,
D.M.S. is number one
Got the others on the run
Defenders of orange and blue.
