Welcome to Mrs. Erwin's Language Arts Class

Get ready for an exciting year! This year is jam-packed full of exciting novels, stories, projects, and field trips. In literature class we will be reading three novels: The Outsiders,The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and excerpts from A Christmas Carol. We will also be adding special units in Mythology, fiction, and nonfiction. To highlight our AR books, each quarter we will create a special project such as a book brochure, power point presentation, poster report, and book cover.

In English we will cover the basic parts of speech and write, write, write! We will write in our journals daily, plus write narrative, persuasive, and expository essays. We will also end the year with a unit on diagramming. We will even be blogging on Mrs. Erwin's Writestuff.

We also have several exciting field trips throughout the year. In the fall we will visit Tanner's Orchard and go through the corn maze. In December we will have our own private viewing of the Christmas Carol at the Apollo Theater. Spring Planting is an interactive field trip in May where students experience life on a 19th century farm. Finally, in late May, we will travel to Springfield and visit the Lincoln Museum.

This is going to be a fantastic year! School is definitely Cool!
