I am Zac Chatterton, Principal of Dunlap Middle School.  Although I have been here only a short time I have quickly learned what a wonderful place this is.  Dunlap Middle School is one of two middle schools in Dunlap Community Unit School District # 323.  The school district has a total enrollment of over 3,100 students and is one of the fastest growing districts in the Peoria area.  Dunlap Middle School houses nearly 370 students in sixth through eighth grade.

Our website is a useful tool in addressing many of your needs.  We strive to keep our students, parents, community, and public as informed as possible.  We hope that you will find the web pages informative and valuable, and that you will visit this site often.

We embrace the middle school concept which centers on addressing the needs of the whole child.  These components include Advisory (homeroom), Exploratory classes, and daily teaming for the teachers.  Advisory allows for us to ensure that the social and emotional needs of students are addressed along with providing students with the necessary skill set to be successful in the middle school.  Exploratory classes allow students to engage in new experiences and find hidden talents or flourish in areas of strength.  Collaborative teaming enables teachers to design interdisciplinary units and ensure the needs of the whole child are addressed.

Curriculum at DMS is aligned with the Illinois State Standards.  Our expectations exceed the minimum requirements of the State.  Students’  individual needs and abilities are considered when planning our rigorous lessons.  We want all children to learn to their highest potential.  A multitude of strategies are incorporated to enable the various learning styles of our students to master the necessary concepts to meet the outcomes of each course.  Students are at the center of every decision, and we look to data to drive our initiatives with a collaborative approach.

If at any time you do not find the information that you are looking for or would prefer to speak to a person about your inquires please contact us at (309) 243-7778.  Thank you for visiting our website and, as always, have a GREAT day!

Sincerely,

Zac Chatterton
Principal
