| The Apollo Missions was designed to land humans on the Moon. and bring them back to Earth. Six of these missions (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17) had landed on the Moon and returned safely. Apollos 7 and 9 were Earth orbiting missions to test the Command and Lunar Modules, they didn't return lunar data. Apollos 8 and 10 tested various components while orbiting the Moon and returned pictures of the lunar surface. Apollo 13 did not land on the Moon due to malfunction , but returned pictures. The six that landed on the Moon had gotten scientific data. The experiments included are the : included soil mechanics, meteoroids, seismic, heat flow, lunar ranging, magnetic fields, and solar wind experiments! |
THE APOLLO LUNAR MISSIONS!
Apollo 1!
The Apollo 1 was being tested on January 29, 1967 and never went to space. With Virgil Ivan Grissom , Edward Higgs White the 2nd , and Roger Bruce Chaffe. Sadly, Apollo 1 had a flash fire. Grissom, Higgs, and Chaffe all died in this tragedy.
Apollo 4
Apollo 4 launched off on November 9, 1967 and landed on the same day with no crew. The main purpose was to take the Apollo Command and Sevice Module into Earth orbit to test all the aspects of the Saturn V launch vehicle.
Apollo 5
Launched January 22, 1968 with also no crew. This was the first test flight of the Lunar Module.
Apollo 6
Apollo 6 launched April 4, 1968 and splashdown was the same day. Was the final qualification mission of the Saturn V launch vehicle.
