Kronos

In ancient times the Greeks named the planets after some of their gods. Kronos, the god of time, was given the planet that we call Saturn. Saturn is actually the Latin name for Kronos. In myths the Greeks tell us that Kronos ruled the cosmos, apparently, during the Golden Ages of Greece.

One day Kronos was given a prophecy saying that his own son would over throw him. So he swallowed all of his children when they were first born. A goddess named Rhea managed to save one of the children though. His name was Zues. Rhea then to Zues to the island of Crete hoping that Kronos would never find him. Of course Kronos had no idea, but when Zues was grown up and strong Kronos was overthrown.

Before Kronos was overthrown by Zues he did a bunch of other things. He had (but then ate) a lot of children. Their names were: Hera, Posiden, Hestia, Haides, Demeter, Kheiron, Aphros, Picus, The Korybantes.  Kronos is also the sun to Ouranos and Gaia. Ouranos in Latin in Uranus, which means the Greeks named the Uranus after Kronos's dad Ouranos. He was the youngest among the Titans and soon married a goddess named Rhea.
