Titan

Titan is the second biggest moon known and the biggest moon of the planet Saturn.  It is the only object known that has surface liquids other than the

Earth.  Titan was discovered by Christiaan Huygens.  Titan takes fifteen days and twenty-two hours to orbit Saturn and make one rotation.

The Discovery and Naming of Titan

Titan was discovered by Christiaan Huygens in 1655, and it was the first known moon of Sarturn.  Huygens was inspired by Galileo's discovery of the

four biggest moons of Jupiter.  He named Titan Saturni Luna or Saturn's Moon.  Later many other moons of Saturn were discovered because of this so

Titan was named Saturn VI.  John Herschel suggested the name Titan after the siblings of Cronos so that was its name is today.

        Orbit and Rotation

Titan takes fifteen days and twenty two hours to make one rotation and orbit Saturn.  Like our moon and other moons, the rotation and the orbit has the

        exact same time.

Atmosphere

Titan is the only moon with a complete atmosphere that is very opaque.  It is so hazy that the estimates of the diameter are wrong.  Josep Comas Sola was

the first person to think that titan had an atmosphere, and the idea was confirmed by Gerard P. Kuiper.  The voyager found that Titan's atmosphere is denser

than earth's and blocks out most of the visible light.  The gravity is very low.  98.4% of the atmosphere is made out of nitrogen and 1.6% is made of methane

and other gases.  The yellowish orangish
