Dunlap High School
Job Shadow Program

Welcome junior parents and students to the Job Shadow Informational page. Here you will find pertinent information regarding our successful program. At Dunlap High School, juniors have an opportunity to job shadow in a career area that they are interested in.

What is Job Shadowing?

Job shadowing is a learning experience for all juniors at Dunlap High School where students are introduced to the opportunities and expectations within given career paths.  Students do this by spending a day with a professional working in the career path or area in which the student is interested.  You will benefit in several ways including the following:

  1. Get the opportunity to “try out” a job before they commit to it
  2. Find out the community is behind them and is a partner in their education
  3. Will be able to see the relationship between what they study in school and how it is applied on the job
  4. See examples of excellence in the work place

When

  1. Wednesday, February 24, 2010
  2. Between November 2009 and January 2010, a volunteer will call you to help set up your job shadow placement.

Requirements

In order for Dunlap High School to make the placement, students must have the parent permission form (waiver) signed and your resume handed in to your Homeroom/Advisory Teacher by the deadline.  Depending on the nature of employment, you may need to fill out a waiver.  For example, to job shadow a police officer, a waiver is needed for the Peoria County Police Department.

Students must follow the requirements sheet located on this page.

If you have any questions about a certain career, please look at the Careers List.  Once you choose a career objective in your resume, you are committed to that job shadow career experience.  Changes will not be accepted after October 23, 2009.

Students can see Mrs. Stancil in Room S12 if you have any questions or you can email me at astancil@dunlapcusd.net.

** The information below will be given to the students on

Sample Resume

Students will be given time to work on their resumes during school hours. If a student misses their class time to do this, they may do it at home through www.careercruising.com. The login is dunlap and password is eagles. If the student has never used this website before, they need to create a new portfolio that includes a username and password. Students are responsible for remembering their login/password information. Click here for a sample resume.
