These sessions are:

                                    Session 1              7am – 8:30am

                             Session 2              8:30 – 10am

                             Session 3              10am – 11:30am

                             Session 4              11:30am – 1pm

 

 

PLEASE NOTIFY, IN WRITING, THE DAYS THAT YOU WILL BE ABSENT DUE TO:

 

                                    ATHLETIC CAMPS

                                    BAND OR CHORUS TRIPS

                                    VACATIONS

                                    ANY TRIPS THAT YOU MIGHT BE GONE DURING BTW CLASS.

 

IN ORDER TO COORDINATE YOUR BTW SCHEDULE, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU NOTIFY MR. KLOKKENGA IN WRITING THE DAYS IN WHICH YOU HAVE PLANNED ABSENCES

  

ABSENCES:

If you know you will be gone 5 days or more during BTW, it is advised that you take BTW during

1st quarter of the upcoming school year.

  

UNSCHEDULED ABSENCES

If there are 2 unscheduled absences during the course the student will be removed from summer driving and be placed in the 3rd quarter BTW (Jan – Mar 09).

With the passage of the new law effective January 1, 2008, permits issued prior to

January 1, 2008 will be under the 3 month law.  Any permit issued after that date

will be under the new law.

CURRENT LAW Intermediate stage: Lasts until driver is 18 years old
PROPOSED CHANGES No change

CURRENT LAW Passenger restrictions: - For first six months of intermediate license: no more than one teenage passenger, except immediate family - Applies to 16-year-olds
PROPOSED CHANGES - Restrictions extended to first 12 months of intermediate driver's license - Passengers can be ticketed for violating law
EFFECTIVE Jan 1, 2008  

CURRENT LAW Keeping a clean record: - First violation: Secretary of state sends warning letter to under-18 drivers and parents - Two violations in two-year span: one-month suspension
PROPOSED CHANGES Additional requirements: - Teens with learner's permits need clean record for nine months to get intermediate license - Intermediate license holders need clean record for six months to apply for full licensure
EFFECTIVE Jan 1, 2008

CURRENT LAW When teenagers receive traffic violations: - Parents do not have to attend court hearings - Mail-in court supervision, which allows driver to avoid a conviction, is acceptable
PROPOSED CHANGES - Parents must attend hearings when 16-17 year-olds request court supervision
Drivers under 21 must attend traffic school to get court supervision - No more mail-in supervision

EFFECTIVE Jan 1, 2008

CURRENT LAW Street racing replaces the drag racing law
PROPOSED CHANGES New street racing misdemeanor and felony crimes;
Street racing vehicles may be confiscated
Felony cases punishable by up to 12 years in prison

Required driving instruction in public schools:
Six hours of supervised driving, which can include the use of simulators and driving ranges
