LEAF is also known as the Ecology Club. LEAF heightens community awareness of environmental issues, supplies the community with information and services that can help resolve these issues, gets people interested and willing to improve our environment, and makes our community a better place to live and breathe. Some activities include to develop a recycling program for paper and aluminum cans, adopt a highway, plant a tree, plan activities for Earth Day, to educate our students on environmental issues, and to enjoy and improve nature.
LEAF Club Activities for the Fall Semester of 07-08
LEAF club members would first of all like to thank the Peoria County Recycling Program. We received a grant from this group that enabled us to receive more recycling bins, an aluminum can crusher and container, as well as a container to collect paper. This grant has enabled our group to efficiently collect office paper from the Dunlap High School, as well as to broaden our recycling efforts to include aluminum cans and plastic water bottles.
Other activities that our club has been involved with this past semester include having a tie-dye t-shirt party to decorate shirts that promote our club. This past fall, we spent a cold, damp Saturday morning collecting garbage at Bradley park. We also had a Holiday party before we got into semester exams.
Events that we are looking forward to this spring semester include celebrating Earth week in April. At which time we will be visiting one of the Dunlap grade schools to present a program to fifth graders. We are also looking into completing paper work to adopt a highway and going on a field trip to the St. Louis zoo where the club will participate in a wildlife conservation program.
