Current Events will introduce students to the use of critical thinking skills and constructs in the study and analysis of current events. The student’s study and examination of current events is intended as a vehicle to improve student-thinking skills related to critical reading and writing. The course will have a heavy Internet and technological component. Students will use the Internet to search for useful information about topics they investigate, learning in the process how to use the Internet for research. Students will also use Power Point to make presentations to their classmates about their investigations. Students will finish the course by writing a paper that is culmination of in depth research about an opinion column, major news story or other topic of their choice with instructor approval.
