239 LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE II (H)

Language and American Literature II (H) is designed for the student who is capable of accelerated and in-depth study of language arts; this course presents American literature of various genres from Native American beginnings to the present. Students will be introduced to famous and neglected voices including civil rights, women's and immigrant literature and relate the characteristics of these works to the historical contexts in which they were produced. Writing instruction will focus on interpretation and analysis of the literature, including a research paper with multiple source citations and works cited page. Challenging reading, extensive writing, and focused discussion is expected. Teacher referral recommended.
