238 LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE I (H)

Language and Literature I (H) is designed for the student who is capable of accelerated and in-depth study of language arts; this course presents a wide variety of literature, including poetry, short and long fiction, nonfiction, and reference materials.  In addition to comprehension, evaluation, applications, students are provided strategies for the appreciation of literary elements.  Writing instruction focuses on the organization, drafting, and revision of multi-paragraph essays with the use of standard format, citation of sources, and conventions, and the development of voice and literary artistry.  Challenging reading, extensive writing, focused discussion is expected.  Teacher referral recommended.
