300 ORIENTATION TO FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES (FACS)

Offered To: Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors
Orientation to Family and Consumer Sciences provides students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in understanding their role as adults in today’s society. Students will explore and study the variety of areas within Family and Consumer Science as well as the vast career options available to them. The course content will present basic subject matter in the following areas: Fashion and apparel, resource management, foods and nutrition, housing, furnishing and equipment, human development, interpersonal and family relationships, introduction to the world of work.
Communication, math, science, social sciences, art, health, computers and related technologies are integrated throughout the course. Learning experiences assist students in understanding themselves, their roles in today’s society, the role of technology in the home, and the nature of homemaking as well as other Family and Consumer Sciences related careers.
This course would be used as a prerequisite for Foods I and Parenting. Juniors and Seniors could be admitted into these courses through teacher approval.
