Classroom Management

Point Sheets

Your child has a point sheet that is used to record appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. For following classroom rules and working hard, your child can receive a “plus,” equal to one point. Inappropriate behaviors receive a “minus” with an explanation written on the point sheet.

All homework that is completed at home and turned in will receive a plus. Late or missing homework will result in a minus in the homework column.

If your child receives three minuses on one point sheet, he/she will have to bring that sheet home to be signed by you and returned the next day. A recess is missed when there are three minuses on one sheet. Failure to return the signed point sheet will result in another missed recess. Daily points are totaled every few weeks for a shopping day in the classroom.

Assignment Book

Students will fill out their individual assignment books daily. These assignment books will need to be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day. This is an excellent way for communication between parents and myself.

Grades

I use the same grading scale as the entire school district. However, I am different in making accommodations for corrections. A score of 73% or lower must be corrected. Then I average the two grades together, with a 74% being the highest possible corrected score. If necessary, re-teaching or help is given when corrections need to be done.

Late assignments will result in a lower score. These assignments can only be corrected if the original grade is 73% or lower. The original grade and corrected grade will be averaged before losing late points.

On the printed progress reports, the late assignments will have two zeros in front of the score. Any assignments that were corrected will have one zero before the grade.

Lit Logs

Every month, beginning with September, each student will receive a lit log. This is a sheet of paper used to record reading that is being completed outside of the school day. Each student is responsible for filling out the lit log as they read throughout the month.

At the bottom of every lit log is the due date, amount of minutes to be read, and the number of AR tests that need to be passed. These requirements are individualized according to each student's skills and reading levels.

The lit log must remain in the take home folder for the entire month. I will make periodic checks during the month. When I put a date on the lit lot, no reading minutes can then be entered before that date.

Students that meet my requirements will participate in the regular classroom rewards or incentives
