HELPFUL HOMEWORK HINTS
1. Allow your child to unwind and play or have a heaklthy snack right after school. Then your child will be more willing to sit down and complete his or her homework.
2. Provide a quiet, comfortable place for your child to do his or her work. Encourage your child to do homework away from the distraction of television, siblings or toys.
3. Depending on the length of the assignment, provide short breaks (stretching, having a snack or drink).
4. Show an interest in your child's work. Talk about the events of the day. Try to get beyond the "I don't know" or "Nothing" responses, by asking open ended questions.
5. Establish that homework is the child's responsibility. However, be sure that your child knows that you are there to help if needed.
6. Review your child's homework when it is completerd. Please consider yourself a consultant and not an editor . He or she needs to locate the errors and make the corrections independently.
7. It is a good idea to have your child put the completed homework back in his or her bookbag, so it will be ready to be returned to school the next day.
