CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
One area that will help make this year successful is classroom behavior. There are not many rules in second grade, but we do expect the children to follow the rules that we have. Children have a difficult time learning when their peers are talking excessively, being rude, or generally misbehaving. All efforts will be made to solve problems at school. However, if you child consistently has difficulty, you will be notified. By working together, problems can be solved very quickly. Our goal is for a comfortable, positive, relaxed classroom for all children.
The behavior management system in second grade centers on green, yellow, and red stoplights. Green lights reflect positive behavior at school. A purple W indicates one verbal warning was given at school. Yellow indicates warnings were necessary to stop a certain behavior. Red indicates that the warnings were ignored and recess has been taken away as a result of the behavior. A behavior card is sent home every Friday so that you are aware of your child's behavior. I ask that you sign the behavior card and return it to school on Monday. I have found this is a very effective classroom management plan.
I hope this has given you some insight to second grade. Your comments and questions are always welcome. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.
