Kindergarten Reading/Writing...

Our Kindergarten class is using a reading program called Literacy by Design. Literacy by Design re-enforces phonics, writing, and reading through thorough repetition and creative introduction of new skills. This program uses colorful charts, key vocabulary, and silly books to introduce important reading readiness skills!

Each morning the students will start their day by writing or drawing in their own personal daily journal. This is an excellent way for students to express themselves without any expectations to fulfill. They are able to clear their heads and begin each day with a clean slate! :) It is also a helpful transition into "learning mode! As the year progresses, the students will learn to copy words, phrases, and sentences that follow a writing theme.

In addition , we will contribute to our 'gumball machine' in our classroom. Each time the students learn a new word, we will add a 'bubblegum word' to our wall. Students will be able to literally watch their vocabulary grow! Please review these important sight words, as these will assist reading readiness!

Remember to keep your child's shoe box books in a safe place, and encourage your child to read them frequently to reinforce acquired vocabulary!
