parents. We are trying to build a community among our parents, and we believe that
this web page is one of the first steps. Below you will notice that you can
subscribe to our list serve. This is an email list of all the parents of Banner
Elementary children. You may use this list to keep in contact with all the other
parents, but mostly we will use this email list to email all the parents reminders or
notices of upcoming events, so please submit your email.

Meeting Minutes
Present: Tracy Walper, Fredrique Aerts, Colleen Shefts, Amy Doering, Celeste Restrepo, Diane Novak, and Greg Fairchild.
Meeting called to order at 6:13.
- Approval of the minutes made and second.
- Treasurer’s report will be reviewed and approved next month due to technical issues.
- Fundraising –
- Carnival Report
- 8,628 raffle tickets sold. Great response to carnival. Fewer, but bigger baskets – very successful. Tracy will send out a “Thank You” to basket donaters.
- Next year’s Carnival will be Saturday, March 28 th. Criteria for date selection included Teacher’s Institute and Spring Break dates. Heidi Pompe will be next year’s raffle chair and Tracy will be Fundraising and Carnival Chair.
- Social
- Tracy suggested a Banner Family Day this summer at Splash Down. It would be a “social” event but 30% profit would go towards the school with no volunteers require
- Other
- Superintendent Jeanne Williams will be at our next PTO meeting at 6:00 pm. There was a misprint in the calendar.
- Review of positions available for parental involvement.
- Recommendation to consider Book Fair where volunteers are not required other than one coordinator – Greg will provide information to Lisa for her to explore.
- Banner nights will be eliminated.
- Art to Remember will be re-evaluated after this year to determine if we will continue this fundraiser.
- Amy Doering and Frederique Aerts will work together on the Ice Cream Social; Frederique will chair. Ice Cream Social will be held on Saturday, August 23 rd.
- Tailgate Trick or Treat will become semi annual; next one will be held 2009.
- Chili Supper will also be semi-annual and will be held in 2008.
- Culture Fest will become team event possible 12:30 – 2:45 during the school day.
- Consideration of changing monthly teacher’s luncheon to bi-monthly or when there are institutes.
- Drama Club Coordinator position was determined not to be needed; Park District handles the details and logistics.
- Celeste Restrepo will do the AR Store with Karen Rieger.
- Mr. Fairchild
- Kindergarten packets went out with Volunteer sign up sheet. Diane recommends using this form for registration. It was requested that this form include donation request and employer information.
- There was a request to donate carnival games to church; positive impact.
- Sound system installed. Amazing speakers. Includes DVD, cordless microphones and more. Will be demonstrated soon.
- Technology requests from district – depending on what the board gives; distribution of Carnival funds.
- ELMO’s – mini computer stations in the hallways with internet capabilities and connections. Computers and visual presentation systems – for paperwork on NET proceeds.
- First Friday of the month is Spirit Day.
- Space Center program – all day field trip coming soon and funds will be requested from PTO.
- PTO is requested to pay for 4 th grade field trip to symphony.
- Grandparent’s Day now every other year
