Classroom Management

Rules and Guidance

Kids

This area is based on RESPECT for each other. Each student is responsible for making the classroom one in which everyone can think and learn. This includes respecting others ideas and differences, using indoor talking voices, listening when others are talking, saving play for recess, keeping hands and feet to themselves and trying their best. Students have agreed to the rules, and will have consequences if they are broken.

These may include missing a play station, writing about their misbehaviors, separation from the group or making up work during playtime. We have gone over and follow the Student Code of Conduct very closely.

Each student has a clip that they move on a stoplight. We all start the day on green. When a rule is broken for the first time, a student moves his clip to yellow as a warning. The second broken rule makes the student moves their clip to red. They will miss the next days's read and browse and will bring their journal writing home for homework. If they get to red any other days that week, they will bring home a note to be signed and gradually miss other priveleges like miovies or recess. Please refer to the “behavior consequences” handout for information.  Problems may also be handled by talking to the parents, and sometimes setting up an after school detention. If I believe a child may have trouble following rules on a field trip, he/she may be held at the school. I will try to talk with parents before taking this last step.

We also earn class tally marks for good behavior. When 20 are earned, we celebrate with a special activity. Tickets are handed out when a teacher observes a student displaying good character. On Friday we pick 3 tickets for a trip to the ‘treasure box.”
