Kindergarten Objectives:
 
 

Students will

  • Manipulate the following materials to create a work of art: Paper, scissors, glue, markers, water colors, tempera paint, paint brushes, sponges, and clay
  • Develop fine motor skills as well as dexterity
  • Participate as a member of a group and practice their social skills
  • Apply creativity , imagination, and problem solving skills
  • Complete the process of sequential operation
  • Appraise and Assess finished work
  • Discover the joy of art through their own unique qualities

All students are encouraged in creative thinking and creative production through the nurturing of the following: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration.

       
Exploratory Activities Include:  
 

 

  • A basic understanding of the following elements of art: line, shape, color, form, value, space, and texture.
  • Sensitivity to self in environment, self image, and qualities unique to the individual.
  • Seasonal Changes environmental transformations
  • Direction, variation, repetition, control and accuracy
  • Knowledge of a famous artist
  • Use of intersecting lines, and branching pattern as structure
  • The difference between organic and geometric forms
  • Discovery of watercolor properties through crayon resist
  • Parts to whole instruction and assembly
  • Experiential understanding of symmetry through folding cross-wise and or length-wise while then implementing the double-cutting technique.
  • Identification of simple shapes in art as well as their own physical environment shown through their own work
  • Recognition of primary colors, and color mixing through textural sponge painting
  • Introduction to ceramics hand in hand with construction of a three-dimensional form.
  • Color identification
  • Translating ideas and emotions into images, expressing feeling and movement through the use of paper collages and tempera paint.
  • Identifying radial symmetry and real life applications
  • Distinguishing shapes and sizes, arranging and assembling original works of art.
